Who runs this and how it works.

This directory is run by CivicBrands — a small civic-infrastructure operation in Kansas City. Crisis directories ask people in vulnerable moments to trust a list. We want to be honest about who we are, what we verify, and what we cannot promise.

Who

CivicBrands is the DBA of BJL13 Enterprise Solutions LLC, a Missouri company. The site is written and maintained by CivicBrands and a rotating set of community contributors. It is not a city government project, not a funded nonprofit program, and not a venture- backed startup. It does not run on ads. It does not sell data. It exists because the metro needs a directory like this and because no single agency was going to build one that crosses the state line.

What we verify

Each entry carries a confidence tier:

Verified — we called or visited recently and the information was right.
Community confirmed — someone we trust used the service recently.
Legacy — the entry has been here a while and needs re-checking.
Unverified — included because it appears in other public lists; re-check before depending on it.
Seasonal — operates only part of the year (cooling centers, LIEAP windows).

Even "verified" entries can change without notice. Hours move. Numbers disconnect. Programs lose funding. Always call ahead when you can.

How submissions are reviewed

Every submission goes into a private queue we review by hand.
Urgent reports — a critical number stopped working, a service is turning people away — are reviewed within 24 hours.
New service suggestions are typically reviewed within a week, often faster.
If we add an entry, we tag it with the appropriate confidence tier.
We do not publish your name or contact info on the public site without your explicit permission.
We may follow up with you to verify, only if you provided contact info.

What we cannot promise

That any specific service is open right now. Hours change.
That a service will accept you when you arrive. Eligibility decisions are made by the service, not by us.
That we will catch every change as it happens. We need your help — flag anything wrong.
That a service is high-quality. We can tell you a service exists and operates; we cannot vouch for the experience of any particular interaction.
Legal or medical advice. Nothing here is legal or medical advice. We list services; we do not provide them.

What is not shared

We do not sell or share submissions with anyone, including the services they reference.
We do not share IP addresses or browser fingerprints beyond what Cloudflare requires for the request to function.
We do not use third-party analytics or trackers on this site. No Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no Hotjar, no cookies for tracking. See our privacy policy for the longer version.

Free to mirror

The directory data is free to mirror, redistribute, repost. Use the machine-readable exports at services.json and services.csv. Crisis numbers are at crisis.txt and crisis.json. Attribution is welcome but not required. If you find an error in a mirrored copy, please also let us know so the upstream gets corrected.

If something here harmed you

If you went to a service we listed and were harmed — turned away, treated badly, surveilled, denied, or worse — please tell us. We need to know to update the entry, change the tier, or remove it.
